The experience
The Dead Sea sits 1,410 feet below sea level, the lowest point on Earth, and the water's salt concentration is so high that your body floats without any effort at all. You pick your resort from seven options (Grand East Hotel, O Beach Hotel & Resort, Dead Sea Spa Hotel & Resort, Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea, Ramada Resort Dead Sea, Crowne Plaza Dead Sea Resort, or Wadi Mujib with Dead Sea), and the driver collects you from your Amman hotel in the morning. The drive takes roughly an hour, and when you arrive, you have the whole day ahead: the resort's private beach, the pool, the showers and changing rooms, and the mineral-rich mud that sits at the water's edge waiting to be applied to your skin.
Floating in the Dead Sea is the main event. The salt content makes it impossible to sink. Your body stays at the surface no matter what you do. You can wade in, lie back, and drift. The mineral mud (the resort calls it a "natural spa") is free to use, and many visitors coat their skin, let it dry in the sun, then rinse off in the freshwater showers. If you want more structured wellness, the resort's on-site spa offers massages, a salt room, and professional mud and salt treatments, though those cost extra. Lunch is a buffet served between 12:30 and 3pm, and you eat when you're ready.
The day is yours to shape. Some people spend most of it in the water. Others alternate between floating, mud time, sunbathing, and the pool. The resort facilities (changing rooms, showers, lockers) stay open throughout your visit. Free Wi-Fi and bottled water are included. A guide speaks English or Arabic and is there if you need information, but this is not a guided tour with set stops. It's a day at a resort where you decide how to spend your time. The driver returns you to your Amman hotel by late afternoon or early evening, depending on when you're ready to leave.

How salty is the Dead Sea water, and can you really float without trying?
