The Experience

The boat picks you up directly from your hotel beach in Negril and heads straight to the reef. A crew member walks you through what you're seeing — the coral, the fish species, how they depend on each other — so the snorkeling becomes something you understand instead of just watch. You'll also dive down to a sunken cannon, a relic from the days when pirates, the Spanish and the English fought over Jamaica. The water is warm and the visibility is clear enough that the wreck sits right there in front of you.

After the reef work, the boat cruises to Booby Cay, an uninhabited island where you can walk around, rest, or snorkel again from the beach if you want more time in the water. While you're there, the crew grills fresh-caught lobster and jerk chicken over authentic fire coal, served with steam vegetables, rice and peas, and garlic sauce. Cold beers, rum punch, soda and water flow the whole time. If lobster season is closed (April 21 to June 30), they substitute sea crab, fish or shrimp instead.
