The Experience

The tour starts at your hotel with pickup and transport to Appleton Estate, a working rum distillery on the South Coast. A guide walks you through how the rum is made, from molasses to the finished blend, and you taste freshly pressed sugar cane juice and "wet sugar"—the raw syrup pulled straight from the refining process. Then comes the sampling: different types of Jamaican rum liquors, tasted in sequence, so you understand what sets Appleton apart. You'll have time to photograph the distillery's large VX sign before heading to the next stop.

From there, the route continues to YS Falls, a tiered waterfall on the South Coast with mineral-fed pools at the base. Bring a change of clothes and a towel—you'll swim in the cool water and soak in the mineral content the falls are known for. The pools are the main draw here; there's no climbing or hiking involved, just the water itself. Lunch is on your own, so bring cash and decide where to eat along the way or pack something.
