The experience
The day starts with pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. You'll ride through the countryside toward Rio Bueno, a small seaside village on Jamaica's north coast, where the horses meet the water. The pace is laid back and depends on your comfort level. This is not a race across terrain, but a scenic journey that lets you take in the landscape as you go.
Once you reach the shore, you ride the horses into the Caribbean for a swim. This is the centerpiece of the outing: the moment where the ride and the water meet. Afterward, time is set aside for lunch (at your own expense) and for browsing local shops or taking photographs. The whole experience runs three to four hours, which leaves room for other activities earlier or later in your day.
A live guide in English leads the ride throughout. The private vehicle means your group travels alone, and the route is built around your pace rather than a fixed schedule. Bring a towel if you want one after the swim. The operator does not provide towels. Moderate fitness helps, but the ride is designed for families and is not a strenuous trek.
