Horseback Riding from Montego Bay: Swim with Your Horse
Ride inland through local villages, then wade into the ocean with your horse
Horseback riding from Montego Bay takes you through rural Jamaican communities and villages on a guided ride, ending with a swim alongside your horse at the beach. Hotel pickup is included, and a knowledgeable guide leads the way in English or Spanish. The full experience runs about three hours.
The Experience
You're picked up at your hotel and driven to Mammy Bay, where the stable sits near the coast. A guide meets you there and walks through the local community first, pointing out how people actually live in rural Jamaica—the landmarks, the history, the daily rhythm of the villages. This isn't a drive-by; you're on foot, getting oriented before you mount up.
The ride itself takes you through the landscape at a pace that lets you take it in. Your guide is there the whole way, sharing stories about the island as you move through it. Then comes the part that sets this apart: you ride straight into the ocean and swim alongside your horse. The ride and swim together run roughly 45 minutes to an hour, and it's the kind of moment most people don't forget.
Bottled water is included, and the entrance fee is already paid. You'll need a moderate level of fitness to handle the riding, and if you're bringing children, they need an adult with them. The whole outing—pickup, ride, swim, and the walk through the village—fits into about three hours.
