The experience
The experience begins at a small family-run farm dedicated to organic grapes and olives since 2000, certified organic since 2003. You start by walking through the Vernaccia vineyard and the farm itself, learning how biodynamic methods shape the wines and oils you'll taste. The tasting venue overlooks the vineyard with San Gimignano's towers visible across the landscape: close enough to town to walk there afterward, far enough to feel removed from it.
The tasting covers 3 to 5 wines from the farm's range (Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Chianti, rosé, sparkling and dessert wines among them) and 3 to 5 extra virgin olive oils, including infused varieties with rosemary, garlic, truffle and porcini mushroom. Each tasting is paired with the Tuscan meal: Tuscan bruschettas, pasta with tomato sauce, a selection of pecorino cheeses and cold meats, and brick-oven Cantucci biscuits with dessert wine. The kitchen uses fresh, seasonal ingredients, so what arrives depends on what the land offers that day. Dietary restrictions and allergies can be accommodated with advance notice.
The whole experience runs about 90 minutes. Bottled water is included. You bring your own transportation to the farm, which sits within walking distance of San Gimignano's center. The guide speaks English or Italian, and the minimum age for participation is 18.
