The experience
Catia's kitchen is built around what she cooks for herself: vegetarian Italian food made by hand. You arrive at her home and spend the afternoon learning to shape Venetian handmade ravioli and bigoli pasta, make cicchetti (the small finger foods Venice is known for), and prepare tiramisù. She walks you through each step so the techniques stick. You're not watching a demo, you're doing the work. The class takes four hours and covers enough ground that you leave with real recipes and skills you can use at home.
After you finish cooking, you sit down to eat everything you've made. Catia pours a glass of fine Veneto wine and sets out the cicchetti and other dishes alongside your pasta. The meal is part of the class. It's how you taste what you've learned and see how the pieces fit together. In summer you eat on her outdoor patio. In winter you're next to the fireplace. The whole thing is built around the Italian way of life as Catia lives it, not as a performance for tourists.
The class works for anyone, whether you've never made pasta or you cook all the time. You'll need to let Catia know ahead of time if you have food allergies or follow a special diet so she can plan the menu around it. Public transportation options are nearby if you're coming from central Venice.
