Shape ancient pasta, taste wine of eternal youth, eat what you made

A pasta-making class and wine tasting in Battista, a north Sardinian village, where you knead semolina and water into two traditional shapes in a 150-year-old kitchen, visit a small artisan winery to learn Sardinian winemaking, and finish with a multi-course lunch or dinner featuring the pasta you made, local cheeses, garden vegetables, and organic bread. Simonetta Bazzu, whose great-grandparents built the house, guides the whole experience and shares the three secrets to the long, healthy life Sardinians are known for. Children from age 1 are welcome; the class runs in English.

The Experience

Battista sits in the countryside of north Sardinia, a village over 200 years old where Simonetta's ancestors were born. The experience unfolds in her great-grandparents' house—a traditional granite-stone building with a cane roof—and the kitchen itself is 150 years old. You start with a welcome and introduction to Sardinian domestic life, then move straight to the pasta table, a surface carved from a centuries-old tree. There you mix semolina and water by hand and shape two types of ancient pasta while Simonetta shares old stories and the reasoning behind the way Sardinians eat and live. The work itself is the first stage of longevity, she explains: when the head is calm, the body follows.

From the house, you walk to the village to visit a small artisan winery. There you learn how Sardinian wine is made using ancient methods, feel the scents, taste the flavors, and see the colors. The wine you taste is what locals call the wine of eternal youth—the second stage of longevity. The tasting is paired with conversation about the vineyards and the craft behind what you're drinking, not a rushed pour-and-move.

The meal comes last, at lunch or dinner depending on which time slot you book. It's a multi-course spread of the pasta you made, local cheeses, garden vegetables, fresh bread, desserts, and more—all organic, all from the region. Simonetta serves dishes from Arimani, "yesterday," the food her ancestors ate. One dish in particular is designed to surprise you and leave the memory of the experience behind.
