Walk the vineyard, watch the cellar, taste what they make

A guided winery tour in Montepulciano's Vino Nobile area combines a vineyard walk through organic Sangiovese plantings, a cellar visit showing production from grape to bottle, and a tasting of five wines—including the white Calamus, Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, three Vino Nobile variants, and the late-harvest Muffato—paired with taralli, crackers and bruschetta topped with organic olive oil. The tour runs 90 minutes with a live English or Italian guide and welcomes all ages from 18 and up.

The Experience

You start in the Sangiovese vineyards of one of the most beautiful wineries in the Vino Nobile area, learning how the estate has farmed organically since 2014. The vines are the foundation—what you see in the rows shapes everything that follows. From there you move into the aging cellar to watch the production process unfold: how grapes become wine, how time in barrel changes it, how bottling locks it in place. It's the mechanics of winemaking laid bare, not a story told after the fact.

The tasting itself is structured around five wines, and you choose which ones to pour. The white Calamus comes first—Malvasia, Riesling, Traminer and Petit Manseng blended together. Then the Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, fresh and fruity. The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano arrives in three forms: the classic vintage, the historic reserve, and the "Casina di Doro" cru, which is pure Sangiovese. After those comes the Filippone, a red blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The Muffato closes it—a late harvest wine made from grapes affected by noble rot, sweet and concentrated. Each wine sits in front of you; the guide walks you through what you're tasting and why it tastes that way.

Taralli, crackers and bruschetta topped with organic extra virgin olive oil arrive alongside the wines. They're not an afterthought—they're chosen to complement what's in your glass. Ninety minutes is tight enough that the tour moves, loose enough that you're not rushed through the cellar or the tasting.
