The experience

You arrive at Podere Casanova and the winery staff welcomes you inside to walk through the winemaking process: how the grapes become wine, what happens in each season, what the vineyard itself demands. The tour is not a lecture. It moves at the pace of your questions and your curiosity about the territory. After the visit, you walk out to the table set among the rows of vines.

The meal unfolds in four courses: a Tuscan cheese and charcuterie platter with salame, prosciutto, bruschetta and oil; handmade pasta with sauce or lasagne; traditional roast veal with baked potatoes; and dessert. Cantucci biscuits with almond or another choice. Wine is poured throughout, chosen to match what you are eating. The light changes as you sit there: midsummer nights lit by hanging lights strung between the pylons, or the colors of spring and autumn across the Tuscan hills. The meal takes about four hours from arrival to finish.

The experience runs in spring, summer and autumn, when eating outside in the vineyard is possible. Groups are kept small. A minimum of six guests is needed to book, which means you are never in a crowd. The guide is present throughout and speaks English or Italian, so questions about the wine, the food or the region get answered as you eat.
