You’ll wander Florence with a local guide who knows every shortcut and story—from bustling markets to quiet medieval lanes. See Brunelleschi’s Dome up close, cross Ponte Vecchio as jewelers chat nearby, and end at grand Pitti Palace with your mind full of Renaissance secrets. This private walking tour includes hotel pickup so you can just step outside and start living it.
Giulia met us right in our hotel lobby—she had this gentle way of saying “andiamo!” that made me want to follow her anywhere. We set out into Florence’s morning shuffle, past scooters and the smell of coffee drifting from open doors. The Central Market was already alive—vendors calling out, baskets of purple artichokes and those tiny strawberries I’d only seen in Italy. Giulia pointed at the Medici Chapels and told us how the family basically shaped the city. She laughed when I tried to repeat “Basilica di San Lorenzo” (my accent is hopeless) but didn’t make me feel silly.
The walk to Piazza del Duomo was shorter than I expected—one turn and suddenly there it was, Brunelleschi’s Dome rising above us like some enormous egg. I touched the stone of Giotto’s Bell Tower just because I could. There was a wedding outside the Baptistery; bells echoing off the marble, tourists pausing to watch. For a second, everything felt very old and very alive at once. Our private guided walking tour kept looping us through these pockets of history—the Dante House Museum tucked on a quiet street, then out again into sunlight in Piazza della Signoria where statues seemed to glare down at everyone passing by.
I lost track of time in the Uffizi Gallery (there’s something about Botticelli’s Venus that makes you forget you’re standing). Crossing Ponte Vecchio felt surreal—jewelers chatting in rapid Italian behind tiny windows, gold glinting even under clouds. By the time we reached Pitti Palace my feet were tired but my head was buzzing with stories Giulia had told us: about artists sneaking sketches past guards, about floods and feasts. She waved goodbye near the palace gates and said “arrivederci”—I still think about that view back across the river.
