The experience
What separates a wine tasting from dinner is usually the timing and the setting: here they happen together. You arrive at Poggio ai Laghi, a winery in Chianti, and a guide in your language walks you through the tasting first: two Spumante (Arella and Firmina), then three reds (Lucilla Chianti Classico, Oletta Chianti Riserva, and Aranda Supertuscan). Between the wines, you taste three oils (Extra Virgin, White Truffle, and Chili Pepper), and two vinegars, including a Balsamic of Modena marked GOLD. Each one is a deliberate stop, not a rush.
Then you sit. The appetizers arrive: Tuscan salami, finocchiona, prosciutto crudo toscano, pecorino, bruschetta with fresh tomato and basil, and toasted bread wafers with Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The first course is traditional lasagna with meat ragù. The main is sliced beef tagliata with roasted potatoes. Dessert is cantuccini and vinsanto, which ties back to the wines you tasted at the start. Water and soft drinks come throughout. The wines are part of the tasting itself, not an add-on.
The whole evening unfolds in a cozy, intimate atmosphere. This is not a large group event. The winery is wheelchair accessible, and all areas and surfaces accommodate mobility needs. Public transportation options are nearby if you're not driving yourself. The guide speaks English, Spanish, or Italian, so the tasting notes and the stories behind each wine land in your language.
