The experience
This is a private meal in someone's home, not a restaurant. A Cesarine host (one of over 1,000 home cooks across Italy) invites you into their kitchen to watch them finish a dish using recipes passed down through their family. You'll see how they work with ingredients like Chianina beef or handmade pici pasta, the kind of cooking that doesn't happen in a commercial kitchen. The demo is short and focused. The real event is the meal that follows.
The menu is four courses: a seasonal starter built around Pienza Pecorino cheese, fresh pasta with Chianina ragù, a main course of either Chianina steak or Peposo (a Tuscan braised beef), and a typical dessert like panforte or tiramisù. Wine comes from regional cellars (both red and white), and coffee closes the meal. Water is included throughout. The whole experience takes about two and a half hours, and you eat at the host's table, not at a separate seating.
The host speaks English or Italian, so you can ask questions about the recipes and the region. Public transportation options are nearby if you need them. Cesarine hosts follow sanitary protocols and provide hand sanitizing supplies. They ask that you maintain distance or wear masks and gloves if you prefer. You pick lunch or dinner when you book, and the experience is suitable for all fitness levels.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 8 years); Infant (under 4): free.
What exactly happens during the cooking demo?
The host will finish preparing one dish in front of you (typically a pasta or main course), so you see their technique and the final steps. It's a short demonstration, not a full cooking class. The focus is on showing you how they work rather than teaching you to cook it yourself.
Is this a private meal or do I eat with other travelers?
This is a private dining experience at the host's home. You eat with the Cesarine host and anyone else in your party. You won't be seated with other booking groups.
What is Pienza Pecorino cheese, and why is it on the menu?
Pienza Pecorino is a hard sheep's milk cheese made in the Val d'Orcia region around Pienza, aged and sharp. It's a signature product of the area and appears on the starter course because it's central to local cooking and something the host wants you to taste.
Can I choose what I eat, or is the menu fixed?
The menu is set by the host and changes with the season, so you eat what they've planned. The main course offers a choice between Chianina steak or Peposo, and dessert rotates between panforte, tiramisù or similar traditional options.
Do I need to book lunch or dinner in advance, or can I decide when I arrive?
You choose lunch or dinner at checkout when you book. The host prepares accordingly, so the meal time is set before you arrive.
