You travel by coach from Florence to La Spezia, then by train through two Cinque Terre villages (Vernazzo and Monterosso) with free time to swim, eat, and explore, followed by a stop at Pisa's Piazza dei Miracoli to see the Leaning Tower and Cathedral. The coach and guide handle transport and timing; you handle where you stop and how long you stay. Returns to Florence in early evening.
You step onto a fully equipped coach in Florence and head north toward La Spezia, where the Cinque Terre National Park waits on the other side of a five-minute train ride. The coach is air-conditioned, has WiFi, and your multilingual tour leader boards with you — they'll handle the logistics so you don't have to figure out train schedules or which village to visit first. The drive takes a few hours, but it's the kind of journey where the landscape shifts gradually, and you're already thinking about what comes next.
Once you arrive in La Spezia, you board a local train that drops you in Vernazzo first — the smallest and most tightly packed of the five villages, with narrow streets that open suddenly onto the sea. You get free time to wander the pastel-colored houses, grab an espresso, or just stand on the waterfront and watch the light change. Then it's another short train ride to Monterosso al Mare, the largest village, where the beach actually exists and you can swim if you want, or walk through the old town's alleys lined with local shops and restaurants serving pesto alla Genovese and fresh anchovies. The whole Cinque Terre section moves at your pace — no rushing between villages, no group photo stops.
After Cinque Terre, the coach picks you up again and drives you to Pisa. You have free time in Piazza dei Miracoli, where the Leaning Tower, the Cathedral, and the Baptistery all stand in one square. Most people spend an hour or two here — some climb the tower (your guide can tell you how), others just photograph it from every angle and explore the surrounding streets. It's the kind of stop where you can linger or move quickly depending on what you want.
The return journey to Florence happens in the early evening, so you're back with daylight still left. The whole day is structured around free time in each place rather than rushed narration, which means you're not standing in a group listening to facts — you're actually in the villages and squares, moving at your own speed.
