The city is divided into seventeen districts called Contrade, each with its own flag and identity and centuries of rivalry, and if you wander the narrow streets long enough, you start to feel the layers — the medieval layout, the Gothic churches, the way the whole thing is built on a hill so every street either climbs or drops. There's no rushing it, and the tour doesn't try to.

The drive back to Florence happens as the sun goes down, and yeah, that's when the hills turn gold and the whole thing feels like you've actually been somewhere, not just checked boxes. The bus is air-conditioned, there's WiFi if you need it, and the guide is multilingual, so if your Italian is nonexistent (mine is), you're not pretending to understand signs.
