The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel at 8:30 AM and a drive to Melangit River, a 7.5-kilometer stretch in Klungkung regency classified as grade 2-3 whitewater. The river earns that rating not from length but from 37 drops along the route, with the highest reaching three meters. You spend 1.5 hours paddling through them with a professional guide, helmet, life jacket and river shoes provided. The rapids are designed to feel serious without requiring prior experience.

After rafting, you shower and change in the facility's lockers and changing rooms, then eat an Indonesian buffet lunch at the rafting restaurant. From there, a private air-conditioned car takes you to Pertiwi Quad Adventure in the hills north of the airport, where you ride all-terrain vehicles across a long, challenging track. The route cuts through rice paddies, jungle, rivers and a traditional Bali village. The terrain is uneven and demanding, but the instructors work with both beginners and experienced riders. You can book a solo ride if you're twelve or older, or a tandem ride with an adult if you're between five and eleven.

The whole package (rafting, ATV, transport, lunch, guide, insurance and all safety gear) runs nine to ten hours. Your guide speaks English or Malay. Bring sunscreen, a camera and a change of clothes beyond what you wear in the water. Vegetarian lunch is available if you request it at booking.
