The experience

The day starts with a 8:00 AM pickup from your hotel in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Your driver, who speaks English, takes you to the Telaga Waja River, the longest river in eastern Bali. Once there, a professional river guide outfits you with safety gear and walks you through the Class III and IV rapids that cut through the river's eastern section. Three hours of paddling means you're not watching the landscape pass. You're reading the current, leaning into turns, and managing the boat through genuine whitewater. The river's reputation for thrilling rapids is not overstated. This is active work, not a float.

After the river, you shower and change in the facility, then head to a local restaurant for a buffet lunch. A vegetarian option is available if you request it when booking. The afternoon shifts to the ATV portion: you ride for two hours through Ubud's highlands, navigating muddy tracks, river crossings, tunnels carved into hillsides, dense jungle and small traditional villages. The bikes are maintained and safety-approved. Boots, helmets and all protective equipment are provided. If you're booking for children ages 6 to 11, they ride tandem with an adult on the same machine. Ages 12 and up ride single bikes. Tandem bookings must be in pairs (two, four, six travelers, and so on).

The entire package (rafting guide, ATV instructor, vehicle transfers, lunch, insurance and all gear) is included in the price. You're traveling only with your own party, not with strangers. The day runs about ten hours from pickup to drop-off. Bring sunscreen, a camera and a change of clothes beyond what you wear. Lockers and towels are on-site. The activity is suitable for all fitness levels, though it's not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or poor cardiovascular health.
