The experience
Buwun Sejati Village sits in Narmada district, surrounded by green hills and rice fields that step down the slopes in narrow, water-filled terraces. The tour moves on foot and by bike through these fields and along the paths that separate them, passing through the working landscape where farmers still tend the crops. You'll reach Karang Mejeti, a river clearing in the forest in nearby Sesaot, where the water runs clear and the trees close in around you.
The guide stops at places where the land itself is the work: a site where palm sap is tapped from trees and collected for sugar and traditional drinks, and an area where Trigona bees (stingless bees small enough to handle safely) are kept for honey. Hutan Suranadi, the rainforest that feeds springs and streams to the villages below, forms part of the route. Lunch is included, along with water and snacks. The tour runs eight hours from pickup at your hotel to drop-off, and you'll cover the terrain on a bicycle or e-bike, whichever you choose at booking.
Karapan Sapi, a local tradition of racing oxen that ties the village to its agricultural roots, is part of the cultural context you'll encounter. The guide explains how it fits into community life. The pace is steady but not rushed, and the route is built around what the land offers rather than a fixed schedule of stops.

Is this one for you?The tour is led by a local guide who knows the villages and the land, so you move at a pace that lets you ask questions and linger at the sites that interest you. Choose this if you want to see how the rice terraces are actually farmed and meet the people who work them, rather than passing through as a spectator. The cycling and walking let you move through the landscape itself instead of viewing it from a vehicle.
