The Experience
You get picked up from your hotel in an air-conditioned minivan and driven to the Monkey Forest, where the tour begins on foot. The forest is thick with wildlife—monkeys, birds, lizards and butterflies move through the trees, and three sacred temples sit within the grounds where local people gather for ceremonies. You walk the shaded paths at your own pace with your guide, who points out the animals and explains the spiritual role the forest plays in Ubud life.
After the forest, you head to the traditional art market to browse for souvenirs. Vendors sell wood carvings, textiles, paintings and crafts made locally; the market is the place most visitors find something they actually want to take home, rather than a tourist trap of identical items. Your guide can help you navigate the stalls and negotiate if you choose to buy.
The tour finishes at Petulu Village around 5:30pm, when white herons return from feeding grounds and fly back to their nesting spots in the trees. You sit with a cold bottle of Bintang beer (included for adults) and watch the flocks arrive—a quiet, natural moment that feels removed from the rest of the day. The minivan then takes you back to your hotel.
