Breathing underwater for the first time, under direct supervision in calm water.

Discover Scuba Diving in Pemuteran is a half-day initiation course where you learn to dive in the shallow waters of Menjangan National Park with a certified instructor. The course runs through four stages: a briefing on land, practice in shallow water, your first dive, a rest and lunch break on Menjangan Island, and a second dive. All with maximum depth of 12 meters. Children from age 10 can join. All equipment, wetsuit and weight belt are included.

The experience

The course starts on land with a short briefing on diving basics, then moves into shallow water where you can still stand. Your instructor walks you through assembling your gear and teaches you how to move underwater with ease. The learning curve is gradual by design: you practice basic skills under direct supervision until you feel ready, then head out for your first real dive in Menjangan National Park.

After your first dive, you'll rest and have lunch on Menjangan Island before heading back into the water for a second dive. The park itself is the classroom. You'll see the marine life and reef structure that makes Menjangan a protected area. Depth stays at 12 meters or less throughout, keeping the experience manageable for someone who has never breathed underwater before.

Your instructor speaks English, Spanish or French. The dive center provides wetsuit, weight belt, mask, snorkel, fins, buoyancy control jacket, regulator and other instruments. Nothing to rent separately. The center has facilities including shower, locker room, toilet and WiFi. Food and drink are available at the on-site warung, though meals aren't included in the course price. If you're diving in Menjangan National Park, the park entrance fee (200,000 IDR on weekdays, 300,000 IDR on weekends) is paid separately at the dive center.
