Balinese Cooking Class in Kuta: Learn 10 Dishes
You cook the whole meal yourself, then eat what you made.
Chef Bagus's Balinese cooking class in Kuta teaches you to prepare 10 authentic dishes—from roasted chicken in banana leaf to peanut sauce—over a three-hour morning session. The class includes a market tour to source ingredients, all materials and instruction, lunch of the dishes you've cooked, a certificate, and hotel pickup and drop-off from Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and Canggu areas. Children from age 6 are welcome with an adult.
The Experience
The class starts at 8:30 am after pickup from your hotel (7:50–8:00 am from Kuta and Legian). You'll begin with a market tour to learn which ingredients matter and how to recognize them, then move into the kitchen to work through the core techniques. Chef Bagus walks you through each dish—the basic spice paste that anchors Balinese cooking, how to wrap chicken in banana leaf before roasting it, the balance of sweet and salty in braised pork, how to shape minced seafood into sate skewers. You're not watching a demonstration; you're making each one.
The menu covers the range of Balinese home cooking: roasted chicken in banana leaf, braised pork in sweet soy sauce, traditional minced seafood sate, minced chicken in banana leaf, green papaya salad, assorted vegetables with peanut dressing, peanut sauce, fried noodles with chicken, and sweet soy sauce braised pork. By noon, when the class ends, you have ten dishes ready to eat. Lunch is what you've cooked. You'll receive the recipes in writing, a certificate, a welcome drink and snacks, and bottled water throughout the session. Hotel drop-off happens around 1:00 pm.
Free pickup and drop-off are included if your hotel is in Kuta, Legian, Seminyak or Canggu. If you're staying in Sanur, Nusa Dua, Uluwatu or Pecatu, pickup costs an additional 75,000 IDR. Public transportation options are available nearby if you prefer to meet the class at the restaurant by 8:15 am instead.
