The experience

The tour starts with pickup at 7:30 AM from Malang or 6:30 AM from Surabaya (Surabaya pickups carry an additional fee). Day one takes you to Tumpak Sewu, where you visit all the waterfall's spots including Goa Tetes cave. You stay overnight in Malang.

Day two begins at 1:30 AM for the Mount Bromo sunrise. You travel in a shared 4WD jeep to Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and move through the Sunrise viewpoint, Dinosaurus valley, Mount Batok's ground level, Pura Luhur Poten temple, Mount Bromo's crater itself, the black sand desert, and savannah before returning to Malang by 1:00 PM. Day three is Madakaripura: an 8:00 AM start takes you to Java's highest waterfall at 200 meters, moving through the curtain area, passing heaven rock, and visiting the lagoon (local authorities sometimes close it for safety). You finish at 6:00 PM and drive to Bondowoso for the night.

Day four is the Ijen Crater blue fire hike. You start at 11:00 PM, pass the checkpoint, and hike until 7:00 AM, visiting the blue fire area, the crater lake, and the sunrise viewpoint depending on your pace. The tour ends in Malang or Surabaya (Surabaya drop-off has an additional fee). If you're continuing to Bali, you can arrange drop-off at Ketapang harbour at no extra charge. A gas mask for the crater is provided.
