The experience
The journey starts with a hotel pickup in Bali around 8 p.m., then a private air-conditioned jeep carries you to Gilimanuk port for the ferry crossing to Java. Once you arrive at Ketapang port, your guide meets you and drives to Paltuding camping ground, where you begin the trek to Mount Ijen. The hike takes you to the crater's edge to witness the blue flame phenomenon (a rare sulfuric fire that glows against the night sky), and the crater's striking blue lake ringed by mountains. You'll wear a gas mask and carry a headlamp for the trek. After the climb, you drive to Tumpak Sewu area for an overnight stay.
Day two focuses on Tumpak Sewu waterfall, where you hike to see the 120-meter cascade surrounded by lush vegetation and powerful waters. Your guide leads you safely through the terrain, and you break for lunch on the drive to Mount Bromo, arriving at your hotel in the Bromo area by evening. On the final morning, you wake at 3 a.m. and board a jeep to King Kong Hill to watch the sunrise over Bromo's mythical landscape. After breakfast, the tour ends with a drop-off to your choice of destination: Surabaya, Malang, or back to Bali Area.
The private jeep stays with you throughout, and the driver handles all navigation and logistics. Two nights' accommodation, bottled water, parking fees, toll fees, ferry tickets (if returning to Bali), and a health certificate are all arranged. The guide speaks English and knows the terrain well enough to keep the pace safe even on steep sections.
Is this one for you?Book this if you want three volcanic sites in one trip rather than planning separate excursions: Mount Ijen's blue lake, Tumpak Sewu's waterfall, and Mount Bromo fit into a single 3-day schedule.
