The Experience

You get picked up from anywhere in Jaipur between 8am and noon, then spend the morning moving through the city's three most recognizable monuments with a private guide and driver. The route starts at Jantar Mantar, the 18th-century astronomical observatory built by Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh II and completed in 1734 — it holds the world's largest stone sundial and sits on the UNESCO World Heritage list. From there you move to Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds, a red and pink sandstone structure built in 1799 that rises at the edge of City Palace and was designed around the zenana, or women's chambers. The third stop is City Palace itself, established in 1727 when Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II moved his court to Jaipur from Amber; it served as the ceremonial and administrative seat of the Maharaja until 1949 and still stands as the architectural anchor of the city.

The tour includes entry to all three sites, so you walk straight in without buying tickets at each gate. Your guide navigates the stops and explains what you're standing in front of, and the air-conditioned car waits between locations. You also pass Patrika Gate, the majestic series of gates at Jawahar Circle's entrance, which is popular for photography. After five hours, the driver takes you back to anywhere in Jaipur you choose — your hotel, a restaurant, a market — so the rest of your day stays flexible.

Top questions

What is Jantar Mantar and why is it on this tour?

Jantar Mantar is a collection of nineteen astronomical instruments built in 1734 by Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh II. It features the world's largest stone sundial and is a UNESCO World Heritage site located near City Palace and Hawa Mahal, making it a natural first stop on a tour of Jaipur's architectural landmarks.

Can I book this tour if I'm arriving in Jaipur in the afternoon?

The pickup window runs from 8am to noon, so an afternoon arrival won't work for this departure. If you land early enough to be ready by 8am the next morning, you can book it then.

Do I need to buy entry tickets before the tour starts?

You have a choice: buy tickets in advance at checkout, or pay your guide on the day. Either way, entry to Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and City Palace is included, so you don't stop at ticket counters during the tour.

What is Hawa Mahal and when was it built?

Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds, is a red and pink sandstone structure built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It sits on the edge of City Palace and extends into the zenana, the women's chambers, and is one of Jaipur's most photographed landmarks.

How long is the tour and when does it end?

The tour runs five hours total. After visiting all three sites, your driver takes you back to any location in Jaipur you choose, so you're free to spend the rest of your day however you want.

Is this tour physically demanding?

The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels. It is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries. You'll be walking around three outdoor and indoor sites, but the pace is set by the guide and you move between locations by car.
