The Experience

The tour starts at Golcha Cinema and moves through Jaipur's narrow alleys on foot, stopping at the markets where locals eat. At Chaura Rasta you taste pyaaz kachori—flaky, deep-fried dough filled with spicy onion masala and served with tamarind chutney—alongside samosa and masala chai poured hot into clay cups. Badi Chaupar, an open square ringed with food stalls, is where you try ghewar, a honeycomb dessert soaked in syrup, and bhel puri, a crunchy mix of puffed rice and tangy sauces. The guide shares the stories behind each dish and the neighborhood itself.

Tripolia Bazar, the busiest of the three markets, is where you eat kachori again—this time with moong dal or hing filling—and dahi puri, crispy shells filled with spiced potato, curd and tamarind. Jalebi comes hot off the pan, syrupy and crisp. The fourth stop, near Hawa Mahal, rounds out the walk with kulfi, Indian ice cream dense and creamy, and lassi, a thick yogurt drink. You also taste mirchi bada and golgappas from nearby stalls. Bottled water is provided throughout.
