The experience

The tour starts at 7:30 a.m. from a meeting point on Isla de Flores, with airport pickup offered for travelers arriving by flight at Mundo Maya International Airport. The drive to Tikal passes through El Remate, a small town on Lake Petén Itzá, before reaching the park entrance where you'll find a scale model of Tikal's layout: useful for understanding the site's scale and structure before entering the jungle.

Once inside the park, a local guide leads you on foot through jungle trails where you encounter the Central Square surrounded by Tikal's most recognizable structures: Temple I (the Temple of the Great Jaguar, built as a tomb for the ruler Jasaw Chan K'awiil I), Temple II (the Temple of Masks, offering panoramic views of the square), and the Mayan Ball Game court. The guide explains the flora, fauna and archaeological significance of each site as you move between them. Temple III, built around 810 AD and standing 55 meters high, and Temple IV (the tallest structure at approximately 70 meters) are also part of the route, with Temple IV offering views across the Petén jungle and the canopy itself.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant near Tikal or en route back to Flores, featuring Guatemalan dishes like kak'ik (traditional turkey soup), tamales, chicken and rice with beans, plus tropical fruit juices.
