You roast the coffee yourself on a farm that grows what it feeds you

You roast and brew Guatemalan coffee on the farm where it grows, make fresh guacamole and corn tortillas from the avocado plantation, taste honey and learn how the bees fit into the system, and walk through four compost methods the owner uses to keep everything organic. Transportation from Antigua is included, and the owner leads the tour in English or Spanish.

2h–3h

Step-by-step itinerary

Organic farm tour and tasting

  • Drive by San Pedro Las Huertas
  • Walk coffee plantation and taste coffee
  • Explore avocado plantation
  • Make guacamole and corn tortillas
  • Learn about bees and honey technology
  • Taste local honey
  • See four types of organic compost
  • Learn organic farming methods

The Experience

You don't expect to actually do the work—roasting, grinding, brewing—but that's the thing about this farm just outside Antigua. The owner walks you through the whole coffee process from the plantation to your cup, and you're the one turning the roaster. It takes maybe three hours total, and you're moving the whole time: from the coffee plants themselves through the pulp remover (you'll see it in action if you time it right during harvest), then over to the avocado rows where you make guacamole if the season lines up, and corn tortillas to go with it.

The farm sits in San Pedro Las Huertas, fifteen minutes from Antigua's center, and it's genuinely self-sustaining in a way that feels less like marketing and more like the owner actually lives this way. You walk through four different compost setups, see the new honey extraction tech, taste the honey, learn why the bees matter, and meet the chickens and ducks that close the loop by producing eggs and fertilizer. The owner speaks English and Spanish fluently and doesn't rush through the educational part—it's clear he cares about why organic farming works, not just that it does. Transportation to and from the farm is included, so you're not figuring out how to get there or back.

Bring a hat and sunscreen; the farm is open and you're walking most of the time. If you're visiting during harvest season, the guacamole and tortillas hit differently when you've just picked the avocados yourself. The whole experience works for any fitness level—it's a walking tour, not a hike—and if public transport appeals to you, there are options nearby, though the pickup is simpler.

What’s included

Hotel or central Antigua pickup and return transportation, coffee roasting and tasting, avocado plantation walk, guacamole and corn tortilla making (seasonal), honey tasting and beekeeping education, tour of four compost systems, pulp remover demonstration (during harvest), and all entry fees and taxes.

Is this one for you?Pick this if you want to understand where your food actually comes from and don't mind getting your hands dirty doing it—the owner's hands-on approach means you leave knowing how to roast coffee and why organic composting matters, not just that they do.
