The tour starts with pickup from your hotel in Antigua and heads to Jocotenango, a neighboring township at 5,000 feet elevation where La Azotea Cultural Center sits on active coffee-growing land. The complex holds three separate museums: one tracing how Guatemalan coffee is processed and marketed, another housing pre-Columbian Mayan musical instruments, and a third displaying traditional Guatemalan textiles and attire. You move through them at your own pace with your guide explaining the history and cultural significance of each collection.

After the museums, the route takes you back down into Antigua itself, the colonial capital that sits at 5,029 feet in the southwestern highlands. You walk the central park, see the cathedral, and visit the Palace of the Lords. The colonial architecture and layout are the draw here, and your guide points out the details that made this a jewel of Spanish America. The afternoon light hits the stone buildings and the volcanoes visible from the city's edges frame the views.
