The experience
The day starts at Thessaloniki Train Station at 08:56, where you board for Kalabaka. A three-hour journey with one train change at Palaiofarsala that lets you watch the Greek landscape unfold. You arrive at 12:05 and transfer by VIP minibus to your hotel to settle in before the first tour. That afternoon, the Majestic Sunset tour takes you out for four hours to see Meteora's giant rocks lit by the falling sun, with your local guide explaining the history and the monasteries clinging to the stone. You return to the hotel or town for the evening.
The next morning at 09:00, the Panoramic Morning tour covers the same ground in daylight (all six monasteries and the full scale of the rock formations) over another four hours in the minibus. You'll enter 3–4 of the monasteries during the tours. Dress code inside is modest (long skirts and sleeves for women, long pants and sleeves for men). After the morning tour, you have time for lunch back at the hotel before the 18:22 train departs Kalabaka, arriving in Thessaloniki at 22:30 with another change at Palaiofarsala. E-tickets arrive by email three days before departure, or immediately for last-minute bookings. You can show them on your phone at the station.
The minibus stays small throughout, and the guide travels with you both days. WiFi is available on the bus. Hotel pickup and drop-off for the tours are included, though if you want pickup from your Thessaloniki hotel to the train station on day one, that's an add-on at checkout. Monastery entrance fees (5 euros each) and the hotel tax paid at reception (3 euros for the 3-star, 7 euros for the 4-star) are separate.

Is this one for you?Choose this tour if you want to see Meteora from two angles (sunset and sunrise light), and spend time inside the monasteries rather than viewing them from a distance. The overnight stay and two separate tours mean you experience the rocks and their history in depth, though it does commit you to a full day away from Thessaloniki and an evening return.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Infant (under 4): free.
Can I see inside the monasteries, or do I just look from outside?
You enter 3–4 of the monasteries during each tour, so you walk inside the buildings themselves and see the interiors. Dress code applies inside: women need long skirts and long-sleeved blouses. Men need long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Entrance fees to the monasteries (5 euros each) are paid separately.
What happens during the two Meteora tours? Are they the same?
The Majestic Sunset tour on day one and the Panoramic Morning tour on day two both last four hours and visit all six monasteries, but the light and timing are different. The sunset tour shows the rocks glowing in late-day light. The morning tour covers the same ground in daylight. Both are led by the same local English-speaking guide and travel in the minibus.
