The Experience

We climbed onto the boat just as the sun started to get serious—already warm enough that my shirt stuck to my back a little. The harbor at Souda was busy but not loud, just a low hum of voices and clinking ropes. Some people tried those sea scooters too—zipping around like little torpedoes—but honestly, I was happy just floating for a bit.

We ended up snacking on watermelon and cold water while drying off on deck. Someone played Greek pop quietly from their phone (not sure whose) and nobody seemed in any rush to leave. The crew took photos—somehow catching me mid-sneeze—and promised to send them later. It felt less like a tour and more like being invited along for someone’s weekend ritual, which is probably why it stuck with me.
