The experience

Chania Diving Center runs this lesson for first-time divers with no prior experience. You start on land with a clear briefing that covers everything you need to know, then gear up and enter the water with a certified instructor at your side the entire time. The dive stays in a protected area with a maximum depth of 9–10 meters: shallow enough to feel secure, deep enough to see what diving is actually like. All equipment comes with you. You bring only a swimsuit and the willingness to try.

The water around Crete is clear and calm for this kind of introduction. During the dive you learn to breathe underwater, move with the equipment, and explore what's below the surface at a pace that feels comfortable. A professional photographer captures the moment. You get free underwater photos to take home, which most people find is the best proof that they actually did it. By the end of the session you hold an official SSI Try Scuba recognition card, the first step toward a full certification if you decide to keep diving.
