The experience

The drive from Accra to Torgorme takes about an hour and a half, passing through countryside and villages where you'll see how people live outside the city. When you arrive, community members greet you with traditional drumming and dancing at the ceremonial ground. The naming ceremony itself begins with a pouring of libation to honor God and ancestors, then the community elder explains how newborns are named according to Ewe customs: the process varies by the child's day of birth and family lineage. You'll watch the full ritual unfold and are welcome to ask questions and interact with the locals.

After the ceremony, potters in the village show you how they make traditional clay pots by hand, and you can try the craft yourself if you want. Then the group travels to a resort at Akosombo, where you'll have lunch before boarding a boat on the Volta River.
