If you’re after something different in Bordeaux—wine tasting meets escape game—this is it. You’ll laugh, learn about oenology, and maybe even win a bottle to share later.
Rain or shine, the gravel path crunches under your shoes as you head up to the old stone house at Chateau Lamothe. Our group was buzzing—some of us knew our reds from our rosés, others just liked the idea of cracking codes with a glass in hand. Inside, you’ll spot the Fabre family’s collection lining the walls, and there’s this faint scent of oak barrels mixed with something sweet—maybe it’s the grapes, maybe it’s anticipation.
The “Wine Gaming” started quick: we split into teams (ours had five), and right away our guide handed us a locked cryptex and a sheet of clues. It felt like an escape room but with more laughter—and tastings. Each puzzle had us sniffing, swirling, guessing grape varieties, and even matching aromas to mystery vials. At one point, I could hear someone in another group debating if what they smelled was cherry or leather (it was leather). The last puzzle? That’s when things got tense—unlocking the cryptex to free the prize bottle. We managed it with seconds left on the clock.
Absolutely! No prior wine knowledge needed—the puzzles are fun for all levels.
Kids can come along; infants can stay in strollers or on laps. The activity itself is designed for adults but families are welcome.
The game usually lasts about 1–1.5 hours depending on how fast your team solves the puzzles.
If your team completes all challenges, you’ll win a bottle from the Fabre family to enjoy together!
You get everything needed for Wine Gaming: entry, all tasting materials, puzzles set up by local hosts, and a victory bottle if your team wins. Just bring your curiosity!
