The experience
What does it actually mean to practice mindfulness in a forest? On this tour, you find out by doing it, not by sitting still, but by walking three kilometres through Kauppi forest while a guide teaches you to notice what's around you and how nature affects how you feel. The hike is steady and manageable for any fitness level, and the guide speaks English and knows the forest well enough to point out what matters and what to ignore.
The route starts at the Rauhaniemi Sauna car park, passes by a public beach and sauna where the guide shares some history of Finnish sauna culture, then reaches a resting area where you stop to make a warm drink together. If a forest fire warning is in place, the drink gets made on a gas stove instead of an open fire. On the way back, you can either retrace your steps to the bus stop or head to a nearby tram stop if that suits your onward plans better. Bring your own water bottle. The warm drink and a pancake with jam are provided.
Dogs are welcome if you let the organiser know in advance. The forest is easily reached by Bus number 2, so you don't need a car to get there.
