The experience
You start on a city bike equipped with gears and a helmet, riding past Alexander Church and into Pispala, a neighborhood built along a ridge that gives the area its distinctive character. The route takes you to a former shotgun-pellet factory, now a local landmark, then down to the tunnel that once carried logs between two lakes and now opens to cyclists and pedestrians. From there you pedal along the lakeside in Tahmela, stopping at the beach to take in the views and catch your breath.
Lunch happens at Vaakon Nakki, an outdoor grill that has been operating for over 60 years and holds a reputation as one of Finland's best. After eating, you continue to Tahmelan Huvila, where you access the sauna and get time to swim in the safe, shallow lake beside it. The sauna is one of the region's best, and the facility serves local food alongside the bathing experience.
The final stretch follows scenic nature trails back toward the city center, ending at Laukontori, a market square stocked with regional delicacies and handmade goods. The tour closes where it began, with Finnish coffee and traditional pastry. Your guide speaks English or Finnish and stays with the group throughout. Bottled water is provided, and you'll need at least a moderate level of fitness for the ride and the hills.
