What’s included

Your overnight adventure includes hotel pickup and drop-off from Cairo or Giza, transfers by shared bus or car to Bahariya Oasis where lunch awaits at a local spot before switching to a 4x4 with a Bedouin driver who guides you through palm groves, English Mountain, Black Desert and Crystal Mountain en route to camping among surreal white rocks—with barbecue dinner under stars plus breakfast before your return journey.

“Don’t worry, the desert will surprise you,” our Bedouin driver, Mahmoud, said as we left Bahariya Oasis behind. I didn’t really know what he meant until the 4x4 started bouncing over those endless dunes—palms fading in the mirror, sand getting whiter with every mile. Lunch was simple but good (I never figured out what that green dip was), and then suddenly we were out of the village, just us and a few others sharing the ride. The air had that dry mineral smell you only get far from cities—like sun-baked stone and dust that’s been waiting centuries.

We stopped at English Mountain first. The wind up there is sharp—almost cold on your face—and you can see how small everything else looks from above. Mahmoud pointed to where British soldiers used to keep watch in World War I; it’s strange to imagine anyone living out here for months. After that came the Black Desert (the name fits), then Crystal Mountain—a quick stop but those quartz veins really do catch the light if you look close. Agabat Valley was next: huge white boulders everywhere, like they’d just dropped out of the sky. I tried to take photos but none of them felt right; it’s one of those places you have to see for yourself.

The White Desert itself is… well, I still don’t have words for it. We rolled into camp as the sun started dipping—shapes everywhere: mushrooms, camels, even a chicken if you squint. Mahmoud laughed when I tried to guess what each rock looked like (“You see a chicken? Maybe you’re hungry.”). Dinner was grilled over open fire—smoky lamb and flatbread—and after dark there were more stars than I’ve ever seen. No phone signal, just quiet voices and that weirdly comforting crunch of sand under your sleeping bag. It got cold fast; bring socks.

Waking up was almost silent except for someone making tea nearby (minty steam in the morning air). Breakfast was quick—eggs cooked right on coals—and then back in the 4x4 toward Bahariya before Cairo swallowed us again. I still think about that last look at the desert—how empty it felt but somehow not lonely at all.
