The experience
The day starts with an evening pickup from your Marsa Alam hotel around 11 pm. A private car takes you to Hurghada Airport (about three and a half hours), then you fly to Cairo (about an hour). A guide meets you at the terminal and stays with you throughout the day, speaking English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or one of 26 other languages. The pace is built around the flight schedule: you arrive in Cairo with the morning ahead and return to Hurghada by evening, ending back at your hotel in Marsa Alam.
The Giza pyramids plateau comes first. You explore the funerary temples at Khufu, Khafra, and Menkaure, and stand in front of the Sphinx: the limestone statue with a lion's body and the face of Pharaoh Khafre. A camel ride happens here. Then you move to the Egyptian Museum, where the collections exceed 120,000 pieces. The Tutankhamun gallery is the centerpiece. Lunch follows at a local restaurant, then you have free time to walk Khan El Khalili bazaar, one of the oldest markets in the Middle East (dating to 1382), in downtown Cairo before heading back to the airport.
All entrance fees, the flight, the private car, lunch, and the camel ride are included. Your guide handles the logistics. You move between sites in the tourist vehicle. The 15-hour span from hotel pickup to return includes travel time, so the actual time in Cairo is roughly half the day.
