The experience
The day starts with pickup at your Marsa Alam hotel and a private drive to Luxor, roughly 4–5 hours depending on traffic and where you're staying. Your driver knows the route well and can stop for rest or refreshments if you need them. When you arrive, your private guide meets you to begin the tour.
Karnak Temple is the first stop: one of the largest religious complexes ever built. The guide walks you through the Hypostyle Hall with its 134 massive columns, points out statues of pharaohs and sacred lakes, and explains the hieroglyphs that show how ancient Egyptians worshipped and performed ceremonies. From there you move to the Colossi of Memnon, two enormous stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III that guarded the Theban Necropolis. Your guide shares the history behind them and you have time to photograph these iconic monuments.
The Valley of the Kings is where you explore the tombs of Egypt's most famous pharaohs. The guide provides detailed commentary on the burial rituals, treasures, wall paintings and symbolic art inside each tomb. You can choose optional tickets to enter the tombs of Tutankhamun or Seti I, or visit others like Ramses VI. Hatshepsut Temple, dedicated to one of ancient Egypt's most famous queens, rounds out the afternoon: a turning point in Egyptian architecture. After the tour ends, your driver takes you back to Marsa Alam in the same private vehicle.
