The experience
Twenty hours from door to door means an early pickup from your Marsa Alam hotel and a flight to Cairo where an Egyptologist guide meets you at the airport. The day centers on the Giza Pyramids (the three main structures of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus), and the Sphinx, the limestone statue with a pharaoh's head and lion's body built during King Chephren's reign. You also visit the Valley Temple of Chephren's Pyramid, the mortuary complex attached to the plateau itself.
The Egyptian Museum holds over 250,000 genuine artifacts spanning 5,000 years, and the tour includes the Tutankhamen collection: gold, jewelry and treasures sealed in his tomb for 3,500 years until excavation in the 1920s. After the museum, you drive to Islamic Cairo to explore Khan el-Khalili, the old bazaar where vendors sell textiles, spices, metalwork and souvenirs. Lunch at a local Cairo restaurant is built into the schedule.
In the evening you're driven back to Cairo Airport for the return flight to Hurghada, then transferred to your hotel in Marsa Alam. The guide travels with you throughout, a private air-conditioned vehicle handles all ground transport, and bottled water is provided during the day.
