The experience

Day one focuses on Luxor's west bank, where the ancient necropolis sits embedded in the Thebes mountains. You visit three royal tombs inside Valley of the Kings (your guide recommends which ones suit your interests), then move to Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir El-Bahri, a limestone structure that stands apart from the sandstone funerary temples of the New Kingdom. The route also takes in Deir el-Medina, the settlement where workers who built the royal tombs once lived, and ends at the Colossi of Memnon, the two largest ancient statues in Luxor, dating to King Amenhotep III's era.

Day two shifts to the east bank and its temple complexes. Karnak Temple sprawls across multiple structures built over centuries: you walk the Avenue of Sphinxes, enter the Hypostyle Hall, see the Obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis I, view the Temple of Amon, and visit the Sacred Lake and Granite Scarabeus of Amenophis III. Luxor Temple, dedicated to the Theben Triad of Amun-Ra, Mut and Khonsu, closes the tour with statues of Ramses the Great.

An English-speaking Egyptologist guide accompanies you both days, offering context at each site. Transport is by air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel, with return included. All entry fees to the sites mentioned are covered in the booking.
