The experience
You arrive at the port and meet your guide outside, then climb into an air-conditioned van for a drive through Puerto Plata City and into the Dominican countryside. The route takes about 45 minutes after your ship docks, so there's time to get your bearings before the real action starts. The guide speaks English, Spanish, French or German depending on your group.
The first stop is the squirrel monkey encounter, where you feed and interact with the animals for roughly 30 minutes while learning about their behavior and habitat. After that, you have the chance to try or buy locally made coffee, chocolate and cigars before heading to the adventure park. This is where the eight ACCT-certified zip lines wait. You'll glide through the treetops in harness, soaking in views of the tropical landscape between each run. The adrenaline is real, and so is the safety gear. The operator handles all equipment and setup.
Once you're done ziplining, a home-cooked Dominican meal arrives: rice, beans, chicken, fried plantains, vegetables and salad, with unlimited refills of water included. If you still have energy, a short walk through the tropical garden introduces you to macaws, cockatoos, African greys and toucans before the drive back to the port. The whole outing runs about five hours from pickup to return.
Is this one for you?Small groups and families with kids from age 3 work well here because the day mixes high-energy ziplining with slower moments (the monkey encounter, the meal, the garden walk), so nobody feels rushed or left behind. If you're arriving by cruise ship with a free afternoon and want to pack multiple experiences into one outing, this hits all of them without needing to arrange separate transport from the port.
