The experience
The day starts at Damajagua Falls, a series of seven cascades and canyons near Puerto Plata. After a 25-minute walk through jungle, you reach the water. The setup is straightforward: wooden stairs, natural slides and pools let you move between each fall at your own pace. You jump where the water is deep enough, swim across pools, and slide down rock faces worn smooth by the current. The guide points out native plants and local tree species as you move downstream, but the focus stays on the water itself: the physical act of climbing, sliding and swimming through each section.
The buggy ride takes over after lunch. You drive through streams, creek beds and muddy puddles across the Dominican countryside, passing through local villages to see how people live outside the cruise port. The route includes a stop at a cigar factory where you taste MAMAJUANA shots, fresh coffee or hot chocolate. The final stretch heads to Teco's Beach, where the water is turquoise and shallow enough for photos and a swim before heading back. The whole experience runs five hours from pickup to return.
You travel in an air-conditioned minibus with WiFi, and the guide speaks English or Spanish. Inclusions cover the park entrance, Dominican lunch with soda and beer, a life vest and helmet for the water, goggles, a Dominican flag bandana, and bottled water. You choose your group size at checkout (options range from three to twenty people), and the price adjusts accordingly. Pickup from your hotel is included.
Is this one for you?Book the smaller group (three to six) if you want to move at your own pace and avoid crowds on the buggy ride. Choose the larger group (ten to twenty) if you're traveling with family or from a cruise ship and want to split costs.
