The Experience

The day starts with a 15-minute introduction to the Scuba-Doo scooter on the boat — how to sit, steer and breathe while the dome stays above water and the seat stays dry. Then a 25-minute boat ride takes you to the dive site, where you'll descend into the coral reefs. The scooter does the work; you steer through the underwater landscape and watch the marine life pass by through the clear dome. After that first session, you climb back aboard for a break: soda and time to rest in the sun, swim in the warm water, or just watch the ocean.

The second part is open snorkeling for 20 minutes in the same reef area — mask, fins and snorkel, no scooter. You'll see more of the reef this way, moving under your own power and spotting new sections and creatures. The glass-bottom boat ride gives you another 20 minutes of reef viewing without getting wet, so you can rest between the active parts. The boat ride back to Punta Cana wraps up the day, giving you time to reflect on what you saw.
