The experience

You're picked up from your hotel and driven to Cabeza de Toro on the Punta Cana coast. A boat carries you to a floating platform where the Dive Master and support staff meet you, fit you with a life jacket, and walk you through how the scooter works. The platform is your staging point for everything that follows. It stays in place while you explore the water around it.

The scooter itself is the core of this activity: you sit on it like a seat, hold the handles, and it propels you forward underwater at a depth of 3 to 5 meters. You breathe normally (no mask, no snorkel, no tank strapped to your back), which means your face stays dry and your lungs work as they always do. For 15 minutes you steer through the water while fish approach and circle you. It's direct contact with marine life without the barrier of equipment or the learning curve of scuba certification. The lifeguard guide stays with you the whole time.

After the scooter ride, you move to snorkeling at El Niño, the official diving site anchored next to the platform. The reef and fish are the same ones you saw from the scooter, but now you're swimming among them at the surface with a mask and fins. The guide stays close. Then you board the Panoramic One, a glass-bottom boat with a futuristic hull and a large transparent section built into the floor. You sit inside for 30 minutes while the boat navigates the Caribbean, and the reef passes beneath you without you having to get wet again. The whole outing runs about three and a half hours from pickup to return.
