The Experience

Hotel pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle gets you to the port in La Romana, where you board the boat for Catalina Island. Once there, the dive master runs through an orientation and safety briefing before you gear up for your first descent. The Wall, on the island's east side, drops to depths where colorful coral reef gardens come into view alongside octopuses, vase sponges, flamingo tongues, and lion and scorpion fish. This is one of the most pristine diving sites in the Dominican Republic.

Your second dive happens at The Aquarium on the opposite side of Catalina Island, where the maximum depth is 40 feet. The shallower water here is home to moray eels, lobsters, and yellow stingrays—conditions that make it one of the best dive sites in the country. Between dives and after you surface for the last time, you have time to rest and recover.

The day wraps with a Caribbean-style buffet lunch and an open bar set up on the beach among palm trees and white sand. The whole outing runs 10 to 11 hours from pickup to return. Scuba equipment is provided; you bring your certification card and a moderate level of physical fitness. Minimum age is 14.
