The Experience

The zipline portion sets up first: 16 towers and platforms strung across the mountain, with lines that send you up to 60 feet off the ground. Carbon fiber cables and a suspension bridge built in are the setup—what matters is the view of the countryside rolling out below and the time it takes to cross each span. After you're back on solid ground, a guide takes you to the ranch for a 15-minute horseback ride through the trees.

Then the pace shifts to off-road: you climb into a buggy or ATV (your choice at checkout) and head out on rough forest roads between dense vegetation. The route crosses an organic farm where you stop to taste and learn about Dominican staples—coffee, green tea, chocolate, and cigars, plus mamajuana if you're 18 or older. From there the guide drives you to a water cave 25 feet deep, where you can swim and cool off in the freshwater pool carved into the rock. The final stop is Macao Beach, where limestone cliffs frame the shoreline and you have 25 minutes to walk the sand and wade in the waves. A bar and restaurant sit on the beach if you want to buy food or drinks beyond what's included.

The whole day runs six hours from pickup at your hotel to the return drive. A guide who speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese or French stays with the group throughout, handling the transitions between activities and explaining what you're seeing.
