The experience

The day starts with a guide meeting you at your hotel and driving you to Atabey Park in the rural interior. Once there, staff confirm your details and the guide runs through safety information and any restrictions before you move to the first activity. The buggy ride covers 35 minutes on marked trails, then you break for a Dominican lunch at the on-site restaurant before the main event.

Ziplining happens on Palo Amargo mountain. A safari ride takes you to the start, where you get professionally trained and fitted before cruising the air on four separate lines. Each one presents a different length and challenge: the cables run from 600 to 1,400 feet, and you'll reach altitudes up to 60 feet. Between lines you're back on solid ground, so there's no continuous hanging. Each descent is its own moment.

After ziplining, the horseback ride moves through the landscape at a walking pace. You then have time at Atabey Park itself to relax, see the private artificial cenote (a 40-minute stop), and watch demonstrations of how coffee and cocoa are processed: both come with a tasting. Transport back to your hotel wraps the day.
