The Experience

Ever wondered what real Dominican mud feels like between your fingers? I didn’t, honestly, until we were bouncing along those backroads outside Punta Cana. Our guide—Miguel, who somehow knew every bump and shortcut—handed us goggles with a grin and said, “You’ll need these.” He was right. The buggy rattled so much my teeth almost chattered out of my head, but it was weirdly fun. The air smelled like wet earth and something sweet I couldn’t place at first—later figured out it was sugarcane from the fields we sped past.

We stopped at this small organic farm where a woman named Rosa poured us little cups of thick Dominican coffee (I burned my tongue because I got too eager).
