The experience
What makes Larnaca different from the busier resort towns is its laid-back character, and this tour reaches the quieter corners most visitors miss. You start with hotel pickup and spend seven to eight hours moving through the southeastern coast: beginning with the 18th-century aqueduct that anchors the city's identity, then the Byzantine church in Kiti village, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The route then swings toward the natural attractions: the camel park (the largest in Europe), Zygi Marina with its mountain backdrop, and the sprawling donkey farm that shelters around 170 animals.
The centerpiece is Larnaca Salt Lake, the second-largest salt lake in Cyprus. In winter months, between November and March, the lake fills with water and becomes a stopover for thousands of flamingos migrating south, along with wild ducks and other water birds. Even outside those months, the landscape itself is striking. On the lake's western edge sits Hala Sultan Tekke, a mosque and tekke complex with deep Islamic history: the site honors Umm Haram, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad. Your guide navigates the day's pacing and explains the history at each stop. You travel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle with only your group.
The tour works for families with small children (infant seats are available) and groups of friends who want to see the region without renting a car or piecing together public transport. Entrance fees to the camel park and donkey farm are separate from the tour price, so budget roughly €5 per person for the camel park and €8 per person for the donkey farm if you want to enter both.
