The Experience

The day starts at the Split office on Trumbićeva obala in the city center, where you board a speedboat with up to eleven other travelers. From there the boat heads out to the Blue Cave on Vis Island—a natural chamber where sunlight bounces off the seafloor and fills the space with an electric blue glow. Cave visits depend on weather and sea conditions; if the entrance is closed, the crew takes you to other caves and coves instead. After the cave, you stop in a small fishing village for a break—the kind of place where you can grab coffee by the water before the boat moves on.

The route then swings through Vis Island's limestone caves, where the rock walls and clear water make for good snorkeling, and pulls into Stiniva Cove, a narrow bay hemmed in by steep cliffs that opens to a sheltered swimming spot. You swim at Budikovac Island's Blue Lagoon, then spend time at the Pakleni Islands beaches, where the water stays shallow and warm. Goggles and snorkels are provided; if you want a life jacket, the crew has extras on board. The boat carries a maximum of 12 people, so the group stays small enough that stops don't turn into a queue.

Hvar Town comes next—a walled harbor town with the Spanjola Fortress overlooking it and St. Stephen's Cathedral in the center. You get free time to walk the narrow streets, eat lunch at a local restaurant, or just sit at a waterfront table. The boat then returns to Split. The whole day runs about ten hours. Bring sunscreen, a beach towel, water and snacks; water shoes help on rocky beaches. Children under 4 are not permitted, and the tour is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy or serious heart conditions. Sea conditions can shift, which may change the exact route, but the crew commits to delivering the best experience the weather allows.

Top questions

What's actually inside the Blue Cave, and can I swim in it?

The Blue Cave is a natural chamber where sunlight reflecting off the seafloor creates an intense blue light inside the space. You can swim and snorkel in it, though cave visits depend on sea and weather conditions—if conditions close it, the crew takes you to other caves and coves on Vis Island instead.

How much time do I get to explore Hvar Town?

Hvar Town is a free-time stop where you can wander the fortress and cathedral, eat lunch at a local restaurant, or relax by the water. The exact duration depends on the day's schedule, but it's built in as a proper break, not a quick photo stop.

Is snorkeling gear included, or do I need to bring my own?

Goggles and snorkels are provided by the crew. If you prefer your own equipment or need a life jacket, just ask—the boat carries extras on board.

How many people will be on the boat with me?

The speedboat holds a maximum of 12 people total, including the skipper and crew, so the group stays small and stops don't get crowded.

Do I need to pay anything extra on the day of the tour?

Yes—bring 18€ in cash for the Blue Cave entrance ticket (24€ if you're traveling between June 20th and September 10th). Food, drinks and hotel pickup are separate and not included.

What should I bring, and what happens if the sea is rough?

Pack beach clothes, sunscreen, a towel, water and snacks; water shoes help on rocky beaches. Sea conditions can be unpredictable until arrival, which may change the route—the crew will adapt to deliver the best experience possible, but alternative stops may replace the original plan.
